Check back soon!  We will be building our training focus for the month around our class with Mestrando Camundongo on September 29th.

Song of the Month (Kids and Adults)

Vamos Vadiar*

QUANDO O BERIMBAU CHAMAR
VAMOS VADIAR IOIO
QUANDO O BERIMBAU CHAMAR
VAMOS VADIAR IOIO

CORO

VAMOS VADIAR BENGUELA
VAMOS VADIAR SAO BENTO
SE FOR PRA VADIAR NA ANGOLA
JOGO DE FORA E JOGO DE DENTRO

CORO

MEU MESTRE QUANDO TOCA O GUNGA
PARECE UMA COISA SÓ
O MESTRE COM BERIMBAU
E O BERIMBAU COM MESTRE FICA AINDA MELHOR

CORO

O CORO QUE É BEM RESPONDIDO
FAZ O CORPO ARREPIAR
O CANTO QUANDO É LAMENTO
FAZ CAPOEIRA CHORAR

CORO

VOCE QUE LEVA A CAPOEIRA
COMO SUA FILOSOFIA
FAÇA DELA COM CERTEZA
A SUA VERDADEIRA GUIA

CHORUS

O JOGO QUANDO TEM MANDINGA**
SE CHAMA VADIAÇÃO***
NÃO SE JOGA COM O CORPO
SE JOGA COM O CORAÇÃO

Let's Play Around

When the berimbau calls
Let's play around
When the berimbau calls
Let's play around

chorus

Let's play around in benguela
Let's play around in sao bento
If it's to be played around in Angola
Outside game and inside game

chorus

When my Mestre plays the gunga
It seems to be one thing
Mestre with a berimbau
and a berimbau with Mestre is even better

chorus

When the chorus is responded well
It gives the body goosebumps
When the song is a lament
It makes capoeira cry

chorus

You that carries capoeira
As your philosophy
Do it with certainty
It's your true guide

chorus

When the game has mandinga
It's called vadiacao
It's not played with the body
It's played with the heart
*A note on the word VADIAR:  This word comes up a lot in capoeira music and doesn't have a perfect English counterpart.  In capoeira it refers to the style and manner of playing and to the roda itself.  It loosely translates to fiddling around, loafing about, or wasting time.  It isn't used in a negative connotation however- it's more to say "play around" or "goof off".

**Mandinga: This word could have it's own blog post (and likely has many actually), but it refers to the deception, trickery, and magical qualities a capoeirista may have in the game.

***This is the noun form of the verb vadiar, explained above.
